FAQ About Our Bamboo Plywood

What is bamboo plywood?
Bamboo plywood is an engineered panel made by bonding bamboo strips with adhesives under high temperature and pressure. It is available in different constructions—such as horizontal, vertical, or "H" grain—each offering distinct visual textures and mechanical characteristics.
How strong is it in bending and load-bearing? Can it be used for furniture or structural components?
Bamboo plywood offers excellent bending strength and load-bearing capacity, often comparable to or greater than traditional hardwoods. Strand-woven bamboo, in particular, is exceptionally dense and robust, making it well-suited for heavy-duty furniture, workbenches, shelving, and—when properly engineered—structural uses such as load-bearing beams.
Can bamboo plywood be used outdoors?
Yes, but only outdoor-grade or specially treated bamboo plywood is suitable for exterior applications. These products use waterproof adhesives and are often treated with coatings or preservatives to enhance resistance to moisture, UV radiation, and fungal decay.
Is it prone to cracking or warping? How stable is it over time?
Thanks to its cross-laminated construction, bamboo plywood is generally more dimensionally stable and less prone to warping than solid wood. When kept in appropriate indoor conditions, it performs reliably over the long term.
What environmental certifications does it have? Does it meet international standards?
Our bamboo plywood is certified by recognized programs such as the Forest Stewardship Council, ISO, SGS, EPH, and TUV. These certifications ensure compliance with strict international environmental and health standards, including low formaldehyde emissions and responsible sourcing.
How fire-resistant is it? Is flame-retardant treatment available?
Our indoor bamboo panels feature a sealed, flame-retardant surface and meet B1 fire protection rating as well as Class 1 corrosion resistance standards. For applications requiring higher fire safety, treated versions are available.
Where is bamboo plywood typically used?
Bamboo plywood is widely used in indoor applications such as furniture, cabinetry, flooring, wall cladding, countertops, shelving, decorative panels, and retail displays. Exterior-grade panels are suitable for patios, outdoor furniture, cladding, and even ship cabin interiors. Its natural aesthetics and strength also make it a popular choice in sustainable architecture and green building design.
What is the difference between bamboo plywood and regular plywood?
Bamboo plywood is made entirely from fast-growing bamboo, whereas regular plywood is manufactured from various wood species. Bamboo plywood is typically harder, denser, and more dimensionally stable, and features a distinctive grain pattern. Additionally, because bamboo matures quickly and is highly renewable, bamboo plywood is generally considered a more eco-friendly alternative.
